So yesterday, i went for my dental implant surgery.
Although i mentioned previously that I'll be going for the first session on 5th Nov, it has been brought forward because my wound recovered very well and the bone-grafting integrated well with my 'body'. (Nag: Don't smoke! Drink Less!)
I don't think i mentioned this previously but i helped my dentist to do a live surgery demo. The surgery was broadcast to 400+ people at Conrad Hotel & 10,000+ people overseas.
There were five live surgeries.
All the rest of the patients were sedated during surgery.
I was the only patient put on local anesthesia.
Thank goodness also, because the rest of the cases were more complex which requires TOTAL reconstruction.. Scary.
Fyi, my face was covered during the live surgery.
Only my mouth was shown.
The reason why i agree to it is simply because - It saves a lot of time.
The usual implant procedure will actually take about 4 sessions to complete.
So instead of that, i'm being given the alternative of doing SimPlant.
Apparently, my dentist is the first in Singapore to use this technology.
I did a CT scan one month prior to the surgery.
And with the help of a guided computer software, the dentist planned the implant prior to the surgery which saves time and improves accuracy.
Of course, it's actually gonna cost a lot more but because it's a demo session, i do not have to top up anything additional.
So i reached the dentist at 12pm on an empty stomach, removed my temporary bridge and was put on local anesthesia (LA) immediately.
The surgery was done at Day Surgery Centre located at Paragon.
It's like a hospital but more posh.
Buffet lunch was provided and the spread was good man!
The dental assistant told me to have some food but i guess anyone with the upper mouth on LA, will NOT have the appetite to eat anything..
So my stomach was empty the whole of the day until 6.30pm.
I always cannot understand how the Muslims can manage to fast.
But after this, I think maybe i can fast also! :D
The surgery took only 30 minutes.
The LA worked well - I can't feel any pain AT ALL during the surgery!
BUT the sound of the tools drilling in my gum & the rest of the things going in and out my mouth.. I just feel as though there's a mini construction site in my mouth.
And now, no pain also.
Although there's a wee bit of swelling, i think it's just normal which should subside in a few days.
