Implants replace missing teeth, including the root.
They are implanted in the jaw bones in place of missing teeth.
After a healing period of about 3 months, the titanium implants will be firmly anchored in the bone. This process is called osseointegration.
When the implant is successfully fused to the bone, an abutment is screwed onto the implant on which a new tooth in the form of a crown is constructed.

To answer gin's question..
The crown that is on now, can be temporary or permanent.
My dentist got to rush to Conrad to attend the Q&A, so i didn't have a good talk with him. But he did mention that a few months from now, i'll have to see him again.
So a few months from now after the implant fused with the bone, and i feel that the crown that i am having now is ok to be fixed permanently, he'll do a permanent fix to it.
Otherwise if i feel the color or fitting is off, he can get the technician to re-do the crown.
