Win Already! :)

We'll be guaranteed at least a Silver medal for Beijing 2008!!
This will be the first medal since Singapore's independence.
Definitely a significant milestone for us :)

I was in office and damn it that our management JUST decided to give us an entertainment room and it's still 'work in progress'. It should have been there just now so we can watch from office!!

The heroine - Feng Tian Wei~ For The Win~

Anyway, i don't think anyone else on my floor is excited except me.
I was checking the results from the web from 5.30pm onwards and before i could see the final results on the web, my friend sms-ed to tell me that we won! :)

So as the usual thing that will be coming out from some Singaporeans' mouth..
If never win, they'll say.. "See, lost again.. waste $ on them only."
Now that we won, they also can say.."What's there to be proud of? They are still Chinese nationals! It's China 'A' vs China 'B'!"

Sometimes, i seriously don't understand Singaporeans.
Yes.. They are not true breed Singaporeans.
But, so what?

We are not the only country to import sports talents.
A lot of other countries does that too, including the big power - US.
And face it, how many Singaporeans actually have 'sports' in our blood?
And also, being a country which emphasizes so much on academic performance & to chase after the material things in life, it was never in us to emphasize on sports.

And prior to this win, there was already the hype about Li Jiawei dragging the Singapore flag at the Opening Ceremony.

Some said: "It's not HER national flag, that's why she didn't hold it with pride!"
Wake up already!

Our country gave her so much, she also put in effort to show that she indeed is doing her best to bring glory for us.
Maybe you can blame her for being short and not able to carry the flag high up like how Yao Ming can do it effortlessly, that's about it.

That day, while waiting for our flight back to Singapore @ Taoyuan Airport, we met this guy from South Africa whose flight was delayed for one day.
So being bored, he started chatting with us.

So one question he asked was: "Is Singapore big on sports?"
So we told him that a lot of our players are not exactly locals.
He said.. It's perfectly fine, it's alright.
A lot of countries are doing that, even US does that.
As long as they are representing your country, it's good enough!
I can't agree more with him man.

Yes, they are not true breed Singaporeans.
But our country is the one who's giving them the appropriate training and they'll be flying Singapore flag at the Olympics.

Also, if they stayed in their country, they'll probably not have such achievement because their country will have dozens of other people who can play better than them!

Hopefully, Singaporeans can 'open up' a bit and not always be so critical about sports talents from overseas.

The finals is on this Sunday at 7.30pm.
Cheer for Singapore! Go Team Singapore! :)
