So on Sat night, i went to catch this film '18 Grams of Love'.
I initally thought this was a serious film, but it's actually a comedy.
The film is trying to emphasize the importance of communication and trust.
And i think the director did it very well with the help of humour and good actors/actresses, you'll not walk out of the theatre thinking: "it's just another comedy.."
And this being my first time at a SIFF screening, it's definitely an eye-opener.
For one, the venue itself is very unique.
The film was screened at this place called Sinema @ OldSchool.
And there was a Q&A session after the film.
And one of the question was why this film didn't make it to the big screens.
The answer was very expectedly - due to lack of funds.
It costs a whooping $70,000 to transfer the film into one suitable for big theatre screening!
Apparently, MDA funded this film 100%.
According to the director, this was supposed to be part of a program under MDA's project to launch this HD channel, but the project 'died' and the whole project team was 'dispersed'.
And someone suggested petitioning to get this film up in the big screens.
And at the end of the film, someone asked us to sign on a piece of paper!
You can really see the passion some people have for local film man.. SIAO ON!
