This is a little overdue.. But still gotta post it since there's so many nice movies in 2009.
Needless to say, it's Japanese films topping the charts again :P
#1 - Nobody to Watch Over Me
A movie about how the Japan authorities handle crimes involving minor suspects.
I love Picturehouse and the nice non-blockbuster films that they bring in.
A unique plot, great casting & acting + fantastic cinematography.
If you are looking for a good movie to watch at home (and don't mind a little sadness), do consider this and be culture-shocked.
#2 - Departures
The art of encoffinment (the Jap way), nicely shown in the movie.
A feel-good film. This film is a classic.
Another movie that you can consider watching at home if you didn't catch this on the big screen.
#3 - Suspect X
A movie that's clever and touching.
This is actually a very very sad love story.
Great acting by the male lead who went all out to protect the woman he love with his wits and eventually, his own life.
#4 - The Time Traveler's Wife
For someone who has got little patience for books, i'm glad that this story is made into a movie and i watched it. The two good-looking leads and the cute girl (the young female lead) are enough to justify for this movie to be on the #4 spot
#5 - Coco Before Chanel
A movie to watch for its great film settings, costumes designs and most importantly Audrey Tautou.
p/s: Please also take note of bad films - Aaron Kwok's "Murderer" and Penelope Cruz's "Elegy". Please do not watch it unless you are in for a bad movie experience.
