Millenial Actress

So the whole weekend, i caught 3 films - None of it at the big screens.
How pathetic the mainstream movies are now -.-

First up: An anime - Millenial Actress by Director Satoshi Kon.
The same guy that did Paprika, which i watched last year and ranked it as no.3 on my 2007 movies chart.

When Studio Gin'ei commissions filmmaker Gen'ya Tachibana to make a documentary in commemoration of its 70th anniversary, he travels to a secluded mountain lodge to interview the idol of his youth, the enigmatic Chiyoko Fujiwara, who was the studio's leading lady from the 1930s until the 1960s.

As Chiyoko reminisces about her life, Tachibana and his cameraman suddenly find themselves on a rich and dazzling journey through time. Chiyoko's films and personal memories intertwine with present events and stretch the boundaries of reality.

This is a free screening at Singapore Arts Museum (SAM).
And as expected when people gives you things for free, don't expect too much.

I'm not referring to the film, but the screening room @ SAM.
It's like just chairs on the floor and a screen to watch the film.
So like watching pirated VCDs - you can see human heads.
And we gotta constantly find the right spot to avoid being blocked.
Kinda irritating.

Anyway, the film was as expected - Good!
Satoshi Kon is really one crazy man to come up with such a film.
And once again, he played on the subconsciousness of people and explored the impossibilities of reality in the anime world.

This anime has got a very touching storyline.
And one girl sitting behind me was actually crying towards the end of the film.

How i wished this was showing in Picturehouse and i'll gladly pay to watch.
Floor seats for watching such a nice film is really a no-no.

Trailer | A nice segment of the film
